Sleep Apnea
Did you know Dr. Prince is trained to help manage or treat snoring and sleep apnea? Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder which causes repeated breathing interruptions throughout the night. These pauses in breathing can last from 30 seconds to several minutes and may occur hundreds to thousands of times during the night. If left untreated, sleep apnea can cause heart problems or other serious issues.
Treatment
If you suffer from mild to moderate sleep apnea, a dental device could be worn during sleep to ease your symptoms. Mandibular advancement devices are the most commonly used oral appliances. These mouth guard-like devices ease the lower jaw forward, tightening the muscles which collapse during sleep apnea. Over time, dental devices can strengthen the airway and reduce or eliminate sleep apnea.
We will assess your teeth, mouth, and temporomandibular joints to determine if you are a good candidate for a mandibular advancement device. We will then create models of your teeth for a specialist to craft and fit the mouth guard.
